Ontario Auto Insurance Reforms
In Ontario, the Insurance Act determines the standard coverage that consumers must purchase. As a result of rescent reforms, some of the features under the Standard Auto Insurance Policy have changed.
These reforms by the Ontario government are intended to provide greater price stability, and give drivers more control over the amount of coverage and price they pay for auto insurance. Beginning September 1, 2010, if you are either buying a new auto insurance policy or renewing an existing one, you will have more options to purchase a level of coverage that is right for you.
As of September 1, 2010, drivers will be able to:
- Choose the insurance coverage that best meets their protection needs and budgets.
- Customize their level of income replacement, medical, rehabilitation, attendant care, caregiver, housekeeping, death benefits and home maintenance coverage; and
- Better integrate their auto insurance with private disability insurance coverage, or individual or group health insurance coverage
All auto insurance policies will continue to include the following:
- Third Party Liability
- Uninsured Auto coverage
- Direct Compensation-Property Damage
- Statutory Accident Benefits
In addition, if you previously purchased Collision and/or Comprehensive coverage, it will still be included in your policy.
